Adam is a musician based in Glasgow and Manchester. As well as primarily being a composer, he is also a trombonist and has conducting experience. He is currently studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Before the RCS, Adam began as a principal study composer at Junior RNCM at the age of 14 – quite young for a student to begin first study composition. Under the tutelage of Dr Joshua Brown (and later Dr David Önaç for harmony lessons as well), Adam began to explore his own artistic voice, and within his first year he became a finalist in the 2021 National Centre for Early Music Composition Competition. Within his four years at JRNCM, he won the Peter Redfearne prize for composition years 2022 and 2024, as well as the Steve Becker prize for creativity in 2023. Now, as an RCS student, Adam studies under Colin Broom as he explores contemporary instrument based performance art and pitch based approaches to structure.
Trombone is Adam’s primary instrument and has been since the age of 9. As a Junior RNCM student, he studied under Phil Goodwin. Whilst classically trained, Adam makes sure to not keep himself within a single genre, as he is also familiar with pop, swing and big band, brass and wind bands, latin, soul, and the extended techniques of the Avant Garde. The latter is of particular use as it informs his own compositional practice especially.
Conducting is another area Adam finds experience. He has conducted string orchestras, chamber orchestras, and brass bands, and many of the instances of conducting performances have been conducting his own music.
